To wax or not to wax? Why you still asking that question!!!

Due to some of the near blinding atrocities that I see on the road Carnival time, I felt compelled to address this matter. I don't care who you are , where you come from or how "good" you think your genes are , if you plan to wear a swimsuit on Carnival Monday and Tuesday EVERY FEMALE NEEDS TO REMOVE HAIR FROM THEIR BIKINI REGION. For the love of God, I do not need to see the curlies. Its indicates poor grooming habits , its tacky and just plain gross.

With that said, I will let you know now I am completely biased when it comes to hair removal methods. I believe all women should wax. As a matter of fact , women should wax everywhere that needs to have hair removed. First of all it is a VERY BAD idea to shave your bikini area (inner thighs/stomach) with a razor. Something we have all done at some point or other. If you do this or are thinking about it, stop now. Not now, right now. You get ingrowns, which either hurt like hell or turn the whole area black (darker than your natural skin tone) which I think is just as gross and unsightly as a hairy bikini line. Lets say that again, black scarred bikini lines are just as gross as hairy bikini lines. Of course you have the constant itching as the hair grows back. My waxing virginity was lost about 6 months ago and I really don't know why I did not do it before (ok I was terrified). The result is as smooth a a baby's bottom and looks smashing, your significant other won't complain either. It does wonders for your ego as well with the whole porn star finish.

So for those of you not up to the times..this is how it works:
Waxing is a temporary method of hair removal, which removes the hair from the root. New hairs will not grow back in the previously waxed area for three to eight weeks. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet.
Waxing is accomplished by spreading a wax combination thinly over the skin. A cloth or paper strip is then pressed on the top and ripped off with a quick movement against the direction of hair growth. This removes the wax along with the hair and dead skin cells, leaving the skin smooth. If you going for the big bang, then you are getting a Brazilian bikini Wax in which ALL the hair on the outside edges and the inner folds are removed.
New hair growth in waxed areas is soft and fine, not sharp and coarse like shaved hair. After repeated waxing for areas like the eyebrows and lower legs, hair regrowth is less common and eventually the hair will never regrow.(so they say). There are many benefits to waxing versus other forms of hair removal. Waxing is a long lasting method. Hair in waxed areas will not grow back for three to eight weeks; when the hair does grow back it is soft and thin. When hair is shaved or removed by depilatory cream, the hair is removed at the surface rather than the root. Within a few days, the hair can be seen at the surface. With these methods, hair tends to grow back in a rough stubble.
I edited my previous post on "good skinis in" to include this Beauty Secret! For those of you who already have marks from ingrowns you can use "Eldopaque Forte" which was recommended by my aesthician. It comes in 2% and 4% formulas. Use the 2% if you just want to use it on your bikini line. The 4% can be used for marks on your face and has more sunscreen. It is also more expensive. This may be prescription in the States but in Trini just ask your pharmacist.

The obvious question is, "Does it hurt?". The answer is yes. "Does it hurt every time?" The answer is yes. But I have a very low threshold of pain and I think its bearable as it passes very quicky. The results are well worth the pain.It does generally become easier to bear. Beauty Secret!! To ease the pain you can purchase a topical cream at the pharmacy such as "Emla" which can be applied about half hour before your apointment. The cream numbs the area and makes the experience less painful.

And yes I said appointment!! DO NOT try this at home. Waxing should only be done by a a licensed aesthician. I guarantee if you lose your mind and try this for yourself you WILL do it wrong and you may very well never be able to get the courage to have it done professionally after the fact. Be real, unless you are a porn star or you removed a rib, you will never be able to contort to get access to the area corectly.

Other than the temporary pain, their are a few cons to waxing. You can still get ingrowns but they will not be as frequent or widespread. If you have been an avid reader of my blog you will already know the solution to this problem. If not, check the previous post on "good skin is in". Next con is that you have to resist the almost irresitable urge to shave in between waxing. The hair will be growing out and you will be telling yourself you have a hot date and you need to get rid of it. However , the hair will be so fine and so spaced out that I guarantee your special friend probably won't even notice. (I say this from experience lol). So a few tips...

  • Find a licensed aesthician to perform the procedure. I strongly recommend that you find some one based on a referral from a trusted (yes trusted) friend
  • The area to be waxed needs to have at least two weeks of hair growth.
  • Do everyone a favour and take a shower before the appointment!!! Please don't embarrass yourself.
  • If using topical cream to numb the pain, apply at least half hour before your appointment.
  • It is highly advisable to wear a skirt when going to the appointment. Tight pants and jeans will irritate the area afterwards. Also a thong underwear helps if the aesthician is one who does not require you to remove your clothing (or if you prefer not to). This way they can pull aside the underwear to get access to the area.
  • Take it in stages. You don't haveto take all off at your first appointment. You can take some off the sides as much as you can stand and then work your way inwards in subsequent visits.
  • Do not anticipate the aesthician pulling the strip. Tensing up causes it to hurt more. It actually helps to distract yourself by talking to the aesthician or the friend you brought for support.
  • There is no need to feel self conscious that the aesthician is seeing all your businatch. She (he? lol) does this for a living and they see it all day everyday. Nobody cares about yours. My aesthician is actually a friend of mine that I hang out with. I don't care.
  • If you going for the Brazilian..go brave cause you better than me.lol I have high aspirations and I'm almost there but still working up the courage (I say next week for sure!)
  • And finally make your next appointment at your first appointment so you don't have to go longer than the minimum time in between appointments. This would help you resist the urge to shave

My Ex-girl friend used to get a brazilian wax every now and again for me. She used to tell me "Baby, you know I really must love you because this shit hurts!!!" LOL. It must be alot of pain I imagine, and for about 3 days you are reaaally sore, but ladies, its well worth it. Its FANTASTIC for us gentlemen, and we absolutely make it worth the pain. Go Brave, get brazilians =)

But you half way there saucy!! Its no worse than your eyebrows or upper lip (i do that as well whther i see hair or not). If push come to shove you can use the numbing cream. You are definitely one of the lucky ones who do not get ingrowns but I think thats associated with ethncity and the hair texture. I have a little mix so I don't get it bad.
I forgot to mention that the hair removers are good too, that would be my second option. But its only recently they started labelling it for use on the bikini area although I am sure most people used it any way. It still does not remove hair all the way to the root.

You see! You see! I tell allyuh so , check reece comments

Hey, Diva,

I have a tip that always helps me control the pain for my wax appointments. Have the waxer pull your skin taut before removing the wax strip. That way, it's just the hair that comes off with the yank. If she (he) doesn't have a free hand to do the pulling of the strip and the tightening of the skin, have her (him) indicate where you can help and in which direction you should "pull"--it's a bloody good distraction, rather than just lying there waiting for the pain. Not all waxers do this, so you should encourage them if they don't. It also prevents those little cuts that result in unsightly redness, and delayed healing. I've waxed at least every two months for about three years, with different waxers, and the skin tightening really does make a difference.

Hope this helps encourage any virgins out there, that it's really not all that bad once you go to a professional. The results are the greatest.

Good point anonymous,I forgotto mention that part of it. However I feel that all waxers SHOULD know to do this. So if they don't...find another waxer!!Fortunately my waxer has always done this on my bikini area so I have never had a problem regarding cuts etc. But I have had some issues with where I did my eyebrows before. Always ensure that your aesthician did a certified course. Avoid going to beauty school trainees. I'm not going to completely write them off cause I have gotten my hair done really well by a "trainee". Lucky for her she did it well before i found out she was a trainee but n-e-way, I would not risk a bikini wax on a trainee or even an inexperienced professional!

I must be different to allyuh...cause I waxed my eyebrows and upper lip a few weeks ago, and let me tell you, full grown upper lip, and the eyebrows in a mess...with thick BLACK new hair growth.
AND I wax by professionals.

Thanks to the Romany blood - I wax my upper lip (myself at home) just like 99% of the girls out there. and DOH lie!
And yes sometimes the hair is grow back real fast. I did the lip less than 2 weeks ago, it need re-doing. steupse I don't leave it to grow back full, but when I could see it, its got to go!
I don't do the eyebrows as they leave bumps. I pluck them, but have had them threaded by salons before. For threading see http://www.spaindex.com/Lifestyles/Threading.htm

Just started waxing the underarms last month at salon - I recommend it. Going to try it at home soon.
I have done the bikini just the leg bits at home before about twice. But I will try the full leg and bikini wax before my florida hol at Salon.

Not brave enough for the Braz.
The salon I go to has: Braz - £18
Hollywood - £25, and Las Vegas £30.
LOL.

anon 7.24am

I get the same regrowth issues girl. After a week it, it starts going back to normal. But apparently hair regrowth is sometimes quicker, sometimes slower. I dont know what factors cause it.
The hair is finer though, especially the underarms. I doh care how fast that grow back, it still feels better than having rough stubble under there. Big difference

Hottie Hottie said...

What de HELL is a Las Vegas and Holloywood?! If Brazilian does take off all, me eh want to see the rest nah! Where that salon is? The one by me does charge £40 Brazilian. I find that a lil steep, doh mind is meh poonky.

Icahwait* said...

That salon is close to where I work in Southampton.
That is well expensive, they waxing your legs too for that price?
Why don't you go surprise yourself, walk in and ask for a Las Vegas so you can find out. But make sure you have someone to admire it when you done LOL.

Carnival Jumbie (Diva) said...

No buh seriously icahwait..what the hell is a las vegas??? I can't possibly imagine what they could be doing down there. What you get... a pattern? They dye it up or something??Or that is the all over package?

Icahwait* said...

it involves using jewels. lasts about 10days. So if you do some porn or stripping on the side, or you have somebody you realllly want to impress lol..

I been getting my bikini area waxed for about 7 yrs now w/ the same esthetician - she is the best & am actually close friends w/ her now :) That woman has probably seen as much of me as my gyno! But I highly recommend it for all u scaredy cats out there - I been preaching about the wonders of the Brazilian for years now. The past 3 years or so I have graduated from Brazil to Hollywood though :)
For those that are confused to the difference - Brazilians actually leave that thin "landing strip" of hair. Hollywood actually = bald, totally bare - EVERYTHING comes off. The more u do it, the more accustomed u will be to the pain. I don't even flinch, I am so busy howling at the insane stories my esthetician tells me at every session! She will 1 day write down all of her crazy stories for her future best-seller "Confessions of A Crotch Waxer" LMAO. Ladies please I beg u - try the professional bikini wax for carnival. Your man will thank u in ways that will encourage u to continue the waxing despite the pain :)

hi im booked for my first hollywood wax at 6pm tonight and im shitting it!!!! some good stories pleas?!?!?! what can i do to prepare? tahnks

Carnival Jumbie said...

girl i sorry i did not get chance to reply sooner. Other than getting the anesthetic cream you just need to brace yourself because it does take some getting used to. Every one i know who started has never stopped because of the results. I can guarantee you that once you continue and keep your appointments regularly that you will get to a point where it never looks like it needs waxing.

ive tried the bikini wax have yet to get to the brazilian is just something about that leap !!! i get my whole face threaded. ie eyebrow, lip, cheeks everywhere. u know those lil fine hair that be on your face.

I just started waxing (myself) a few month before Carnival. Haven't done brazilian but working towards that.

She Who Weaves Words said...

You're preaching to the choir on this one, CJ...I've been waxing my underarms religiously for years, was introduced to the Brazilian in January 2008 for (guess what?) Carnival! I've never looked back...I'll be waxing til they put me in the ground. Thinking of threading my eyebrows though.

I used to use Emla, but I have a fairly high pain tolerance level and don't need it, and I'm fine...it's done in 20 minutes, I just chat to the lady til she's done.

If I have one recommendation, it would be "Find someone you're comfortable with, and stick with them". Don't put up with any rudeness or anything that makes you uncomfortable as a client.

I did laser hair removal couple of years ago..(bikini area and armpits)best decision. I go in for a touch up about once per year.

I tried waxing but it hurt waaaayy too much. I felt like slapping somebody. Eventually went with laser hair removal for both bikini and armpits. Best decision ever!
